"Encouraging numbers" of Tunisians vote for new constitution

TUNIS, July 25 (KUNA) -- Over nine million Tunisians began voting in referendum for a new constitution on Monday.
In a statement by head of the Independent High Authority for Elections Farouq Boaskar, the number of voters reached 564,753 in the first three hours of opening polling stations, a 6.32 percent of the total voters' numbers.
He said the number is "encouraging", compared to a percentage of 1.6 in the same period in 2019.
The primary results will come out tomorrow, while the result will be announced no later than next Sunday.
Tunisian President Kais Saied had dissolved the parliament in July 2021 in the light of a severe political crisis in the country, launching the constitution referendum to build a new republic. (end) ksj.ag
