KUWAIT, July 12 (KUNA)

1965 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signs a law giving Municipality Jurisdiction over assessment of value of real estate the government wishes to buy.
1967 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signs a law naming the head of state as Supreme Commander of Armed Forces. The law specifies duties of the army to defending the borders of the nation. The army consists of land, navy and air forces.
1981 -- Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society is established with the purpose of helping Muslims by building mosques, schools and Islamic centers, orphanages and hospitals in Muslim countries.
1984 -- Johar Salem, a renowned actor who joined the Arab Theater Troupe in 1962, passes away at age of 53. The deceased won the best supporting actor award for the 1980 Nora Play.
1986 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signs a decree regarding formation of the nation's 13th government. The Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah chaired the 21-member cabinet.
1998 -- Kuwait Oil Tankers Company (KOTC) inaugurates the Shaqaya oil tanker from the Hyundai ship yard in South Korea. The double hull tanker had a capacity of 309,000 tons.
1998 -- A society for families of Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraq is established. The society aims at highlighting humanitarian causes of Kuwait including Kuwaiti people who were arrested by the Iraqi forces during their invasion and occupation of Kuwait in 1990-91. The society later changed its name to the families of Kuwaiti martyrs, prisoners and missing.
2000 -- Kuwait National Assembly approves an agreement with Saudi Arabia to demarcate marine borders, considering it a historic accord.
2003 -- Abdullah Al-Qassar, one of Kuwait's famous artists and one of founders of Kuwait Art Association, passes away at age of 62. Al-Qassar won many Arab and international awards.
2004 -- Privately-owned Jazeera Airways is established with 10 million Kuwaiti Dinars (KD) capital.
2006 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah opens the parliament's first term of the 11th legislative session. Jassem Al-Kharafi was elected as speaker and Mohammad Al-Busair as his deputy.
2016 -- Kuwait Ministry of Finance signs a geographical information systems agreement with Zak Solutions. The four-year deal was estimated at KD 6.8 million.
2018 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signs a KD 50 million (USD 170 million) loan agreement with Egypt to finance a water project.
2018 -- Kuwait national team come second with seven gold medals in West Asia Athletics Championship in Jordan.
2021 -- The cabinet directs the Ministry of Defense and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation to put their own facilities at the disposal of the country's health sector in a bid to curb the spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic.
2021 -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research launches Spanish-made 55.5-meter-long and 12-meter-wide research ship (The Explorer). Equipped with the latest equipment, the "Explorer" is able to navigate for 19 days continuously and includes seven specialized laboratories, mainly aiming at developing the country's oceanological research and safeguard vital marine resources.
