7 killed, 45 missing as massive landslide hit Indian Manipur

NEW DELHI, June 30 (KUNA) -- At least seven people were killed on Thursday and 45 others are still missing as a massive landslide hit northeastern Indian state of Manipur.
The Asian News International quoted a local government official saying, seven bodies were recovered, dozens were rescued while 45 others are trapped inside the debris as a massive landslide hit Tupul yard railway construction camp, in Noney district in the state on Wednesday night.
The National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster response Force and officials of state government and railways are still searching for those buried alive.
The landslide was caused by incessant monsoon rains as tragedy took place as several Indian states are bracing for landslides and flood like situations.
In neighbouring Assam, death toll due to the flood situation has risen to 151 amid reports that lives of millions are affected, while other Indian states including Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal are bracing for floods, lightening and landslides that claim thousands of lives in the country every year.
