G7 pledges USD 4.5 bln to fight global hunger

BERLIN, June 28 (KUNA) -- Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) pledged USD 4.5 billion on Tuesday to help ease the global hunger crisis sparked by Russia's military operation in Ukraine.
This came in a statement issued at the final day of the three-day annual summit, held in the Bavarian Alps in southern Germany.
The G7 leaders urged Russia to end its blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports, halt acts of war that have destroyed a key harbor, transport infrastructures, grain silos and terminals and abstain from illegal confiscation of agricultural commodities and equipment in Ukraine.
The statement also added that the G7 member states have specialized USD 14 billion since start of 2022 to fight hunger in low-income countries in Africa and Asia.
Global hunger, especially in Africa and Asia, topped agenda of the G7 Summit that kicked off on Sunday. (end) an.ahm
