WASHINGTON, June 28 (KUNA) -- At least 46 migrants were dead on Monday evening inside a semi-truck in San Antonio, Texas, according to San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood.
Sixteen others, including four children, were taken to the hospital, Hood said in a press briefing, adding that all injuries were heat related and the patients were "hot to the touch."
"Weآ’re not supposed to open up a truck and see stacks of bodies in there," he remarked.
Police Chief William McManus said that three people have been taken into custody and that this investigation "is now a federal investigation."
Furthermore, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg tweeted that "migrants seeking asylum should always be treated as a humanitarian crisis, but this evening we're facing a horrific human tragedy." (end) si.mt
