BRUSSELS, June 25 (KUNA) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Saturday in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the application by Finland and Sweden to join the western military alliance.
"Good call with President Erdogan of our valued Ally Turkiye to discuss Finland and Sweden's NATO applications," Stoltenberg said on his tweeter message today.
"We agreed to continue the talks in Brussels and Madrid next week," he added.
Finland and Sweden in May applied formally to join NATO, but Turkey has objected to their application accusing the two EU member states of supporting the Kurdish terrorist group PKK and demanding that they stop their support
Leaders of the 30-member NATO are to meet in the Spanish capital Madrid next week and are expected to decide on their application. (end)
