EU, Bahrain discuss EU-Gulf partnership, Schengen visa waiver

BRUSSELS, June 24 (KUNA) -- The European Union and Bahrain discussed the implementation of the recently adopted EU Joint Communication on a Strategic Partnership with the Gulf during a Senior Officials Meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
The meeting launched the implementation of the Cooperation Arrangement between the European External Action Service (EEAS) and Bahrain Foreign Ministry signed in February last year, said a press release by the EEAS on Friday.
Yesterday's high-level political consultations focused on EU-Bahrain bilateral relations, recent developments in the Gulf and the wider Middle East, Iran, the Middle East Peace Process as well as the war in Ukraine.
The issue of the Schengen visa waiver for Bahrain was also discussed, the statement noted.
The first Senior Officials Meeting between the EU and Bahrain was co-chaired by EEAS Deputy Secretary-General Enrique Mora and Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. (end) nk.gb
