N. Korea adds "important action plan" to frontline army units

TOKYO, June 24 (KUNA) -- North Korea has decided to add "an important military action plan" to the operation duties of its frontline military units and strengthen the country's war deterrent, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Friday.
The decision was made at the thee-day meeting of the Enlarged Meeting of the 8th Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea that ended Thursday, according to the report. The KCNA did not further provide details about the plan.
During the high-profile meeting, chaired by leader Kim Jong-un, top military officials also "approved an important issue of providing a military guarantee for further strengthening the country's war deterrent, true to the strategic plan of the Party Central Committee, and ratified the plan for reorganization of military organizational formations," it said.
Kim "stressed the need for the entire army to go all out for implementing the army-building idea and military strategic plan" and "consolidate in every way the powerful self-defense capabilities for overwhelming any hostile forces and thus reliably protect the dignity of the great country and the security of its great people," the KCNA said.
The talks came amid speculation that Pyongyang is preparing what will be first nuclear test since September 2017. (end) mk.mt
