EU official: EU summit to grant candidate status to Ukraine

BRUSSELS, June 22 (KUNA) -- European Union leaders are expected to grant the EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova during their meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
"It is a done deal. No problems," a senior EU official told journalists in Brussels today speaking on condition of anonymity.
The European Commission on Friday 17 June formally recommended European Union candidate status for Ukraine and Moldova.
The 27 EU leaders are also expected to discuss more military and financial support to Ukraine in the war against Russia.
On Thursday morning, EU leaders are set to address the accession paths of Western Balkans countries with the leaders of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
EU leaders will also discuss relations with Turkey and its role in helping grain export from Ukraineآ’s ports that are blocked by Russia, noted the official. (end) nk
