France, Australia agree to mend strained ties

PARIS, June 1 (KUNA) -- France and Australia's foreign ministers agreed on Wednesday to rekindle bilateral relations without delay, after ties were damaged by an incident last year where Canberra abandoned a multi-billion dollar submarine deal with Paris.
Catherine Colonna and her Australian counterpart Marise Payne agreed in a phone call that Paris and Canberra share a mutual desire to repair bilateral relations, said a French foreign ministry statement.
In September of 2021, France said it had felt "betrayed" after Australia cancelled a lucrative submarine deal with Paris, opting for one with the US and Britain instead. (end) mao.nam
