Blinken underscores importance of probes into Shireen Abu-Akleh's death

WASHINGTON, May 27 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday highlighted "the importance of concluding the investigations" into the death of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu-Akleh.
In a phone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid, he reaffirmed belief in "the importance of Israelis and Palestinians working to maintain calm," according to a statement by State Department Spokesperson Ned Price.
Blinken renewed the US support "a negotiated two-state solution" to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Price added.
A long-time TV correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic, Shireen was killed on May 11 while covering Israeli army raids in the city of Jenin. (end) si.gb
