KUWAIT, May 22 (KUNA) -- The official inauguration ceremony of the Third Gulf Games was held Sunday under patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and attendance of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
In a press statement, His Highness the Prime Minster welcomed the Gulf delegations in their second country, Kuwait, the "Land of Peace and Friendship", wishing the championship achieve its goal in promoting communications amongst GCC brothers.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chairperson of Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said Kuwait has given utmost priority to sports and athletes, out of faith in social and sports responsibilities.
This confirms the country's future strategy to develop the Olympic movement in light of directives of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Nasser added.
The ceremony featured Deputy National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Shuhoumi, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as well as a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials, in addition to Gulf dignitaries.
