MADRID, May 17 (KUNA) -- The visiting Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Tuesday reviewed with Spanish King Felipe VI bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to boost them in various fields.
This came at the Royal Palace (La Zarzuela) following the official reception for Sheikh Tamim, his wife Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al-Thani and a high level delegation accompanying.
Sheikh Tamim will resume his agenda, Wednesday, by attending the Spanish-Qatari Business Forum, before meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez at La Moncloa Presidential Palace to discuss bilateral relations especially at the economic level.
It is scheduled to sign 12 agreements, including eight memoranda of understanding at the bilateral level in various fields, mostly economic and commercial.
This visit is of great importance for Spain, especially since Qatar has the third largest natural gas reserves in the world and is a reliable partner for Europe, which is looking for alternative sources of Russian gas supply, especially it is the fifth supplier of gas after the United States, Algeria, Nigeria and Egypt.
Sources in the Spanish presidential palace told reporters that the Spanish government is looking forward that this visit will contribute to upgrading the bilateral relations to a strategic partnership at the political and economic levels, in addition to visiting Qatari investments in Spain and ensuring greater supplies of natural gas.
During his two-day visit, the Amir of Qatar will be awarded by the Order of Isabella the Catholic based on the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the approval of the Council of Ministers last Tuesday, the medal launched in 1815 to honor exceptional behaviors of a civil nature by Spanish and foreign persons that benefit the nation or contribute to the strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation between the Spanish nation and the rest of the international community and is usually granted to foreign leaders during their visit to Spain.(pickup previous) nhd.sam
