Arab League calls for supporting Lebanon

CAIRO, May 17 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Tuesday urged the international community to help Lebanon under the current "critical conditions" prevailing in the country.
Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit, in a statement, congratulated the Lebanese people on holding parliamentary elections, on May 15, hoping that the polls would be "a positive step toward tackling the political and economic conditions in the country." He also urged the Lebanese to capitalize on outcome of the elections and form a new government capable of conducting reforms in relation to the accords with the International Monetary Fund that had pledged to help in tackling the ailing economy.
Moreover, the Arab organization chief appealed to Lebanese leaders to demonstrate highest levels of responsibility, placing national interests above any other consideration, affirming that the coming months would be crucial to determine whether the country would be able to overcome the crises.
