KRG security services seize large quantity of munitions N. Iraq

IRBIL, April 26 (KUNA) -- The security council of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Tuesday the seizure of one ton of explosives, sophisticated weapons and other munitions in Duhok govenorate, north Iraq, near the borders with Turkey.
The seizures were in possession of a man identified as Younis Ahmad Qasim Suleiman; they would be used in a terrorist serious plot orchestrated by Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the KRG security services managed to foil this plot, according to a KRG press release.
These include a large quantity of PETN - highly explosive organic compound, 10 wire-guided anti-tank missile Konkurs, 23 engines of combat drones, 1,200 gas masks and 375 AK magazines.
Interrogation with Suleiman proved that he was tasked with conveying the ammunitions from the People's Protection Units (YPG) to the PKK.
The PKK, a Kurdish militant group designated by Turkey as terrorist, has been fighting a guerilla war against the Turkish forces since 1984. The fighting between both sides in southern Turkey and northern Iraq claimed more than 40,000 lives so far. (end) sbr.amm.gb
