Avalanche kills 19 people in E. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- At least 19 people were killed by an avalanche while crossing a remote mountain area from Afghanistan into Pakistan, said officials on Monday.
The head of information for Afghanistanآ’s eastern Kunar province, Najibullah Hassan Abdal, told media that rescue workers were still searching at the scene of the avalanche.
He confirmed that at least 19 bodies have been recovered already by the rescuers.
In 2015, more than 250 people were killed across the country in a series of devastating avalanches.
A large number of Afghans cross illegally to Pakistan in routine for job search and trades of goods. Pakistan military is fencing the around 2,700 kilometres Pak-Afghan border known as the Durand line. (end) sbk.rk
