Thousands of people protest in Brussels against coronavirus measures

BRUSSELS, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- Tens of thousands of people from various European countries held a demonstration in Brussels Sunday afternoon against the coronavirus restrictions.
The protest was organised by the organisation Europeans United, together with more than 600 local organisations from across Europe.
Its chair and spokesperson Tom Meert told Belgian media that they were against the "undemocratic" manner in which the measures to stop the spread of Covid were implemented.
The organisers of the march are calling for an open debate on the measures brought in by the authorities to try and curb the spread of COVID-19, broadcaster VRT reported.
A group of protesters in the area of Place Schuman near the EU headquarters clashed with police, who were reported to have used tear gas, Brussels Times said.
This was the fifth demonstration against Covid policy in the past two months in Brussels. (end) nk.rk
