RIYADH, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait beat Jordan by a comfortable 11-goal margin on Tuesday in their first encounter at the 2022 Asian Men's Handball Championship, hosted by Saudi Arabia's eastern cities of Dammam and Al-Qatif.
The 42-31 victory takes four-time Asian title-holders Kuwait temporarily to joint top of Group A with two points, trailing only by goal difference to nine-time champions and 2020 runners-up South Korea, who thrashed Singapore 40-9.
In other encounters, the home side grabbed a 54-30 win over India, taking them to the top of Group B as the defending champions, Qatar, likewise, brushed aside Oman in Group C after a 31-14 victory.
Only the top two sides of each of four groups will make it through to the round-of-16 knock-out stages, with the top five sides in the tournament earning direct qualification to the 2023 World Cup. (end) mdm.sd
