Army Captain killed, 3 injured by smugglers fire on Jordan-Syrian borders

AMMAN, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- One border guard captain was killed and three soldiers injured early Sunday due to an armed clash with smugglers on one of the northeastern border fronts, said Jordan Armed Forces.
A statement by the Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army said that at Sunday dawn, smugglers opened fire on a Border Guards Patrol on the northeastern borders before the troops returned fire and pushed the smugglers back to inside Syrian territory.
The incident left Captain Muhammad Khudayrat dead while three soldiers were injured and evacuated to a nearby military hospital, the army added, a search of the area where the incident took place led to seizing a huge amount of narcotics, which the smugglers left behind.
The army reaffirmed that it will not tolerate any smuggling or infiltration attempts targeting national security. (end) ab.seo
