Al-Zakat house lightens Kuwait's charitable work

KUWAIT, Jan 15 (KUNA) - Kuwaiti Zakat house(alms) is a charitable organization that helps families of Kuwaiti citizens and residents and achieve cohesion in society in all possible ways.
The acting director general of Al-Zakat House Dr. Majed Al-Azmi said in a statement to KUNA that the idea of establishing Al-Zakat house is to excel in humanitarian and charitable work in and outside the country.
Amiri Decree 5/1982 was issued for establishment of Zakat (Alms) House as a public institution with an independent budget He added that there are currently preparations for marketing projects aimed at developing revenues, strengthening relationship with donors and providing necessary services.
He pointed out that there are also various external works, including sponsoring orphans' ventures, knowledge projects, as well as establishing mosques, institutes and educational centers, also seasonal activities such as iftar banquets and zakat al-fitr and many others.
Al-Azmi has added that they support the external authorities' projects and give priority to the bodies that are working in the development field.
Meanwhile, spokesman of Al-Zakat House Hamad Al-Merri said in a statement that Zakat House disbursed aid to 33,000 needy families during peak of the coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic.
He noted that during the lockdown, the house staff volunteered for preparing and distributing aid monthly to the families in need.
He added that the house has received many awards. Its website took the third place as one of the best governmental websites in Kuwait.
Al-Merri added that Kuwait Zakat House's also won Bahrain's award for humanitarian action due to its significant contribution in this field. (end) dt.gaa
