Kuwait FM letter handed to Russian counterpart

By Adeeb al-Sayed MOSCOW, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Majdi Al-Dhafiri delivered on Tuesday a message from Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Speaking to KUNA at the end of talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov, Al-Dhafiri said the letter includes Kuwait's vision on ties with Russia.
The ties are based on distinguished and stable bonds as well as mutual understanding and appreciation of each other, he added, noting that Kuwait evalautes relations with friends and allies in Russia.
Al-Dhafiri described talks with the Russian side as "explicit and clear", saying they were based on common grounds of understanding and harmony.
The talks covered means of developing and upgrading the bilateral relations in all fields to the strategic partnership level, he said, terming ties with Russia as "wonderful".
Expressing common concerns, the two sides said that there would be intensified political talks in the near future to enhance harmony and understanding between Kuwait and Russia, and between Russia and GCC states, he made clear.
Meanwhile, Bogdanov said that the Kuwaiti-Russian ties are based on traditional friendship, recalling that Kuwait was the first Gulf country that established diplomatic ties with Russia.
Furthermore, the two sides discussed economic and commercial relations, investment projects, humanitarian cooperation, cultural exchange as well as international and regional issues, the Russian official told KUNA in a statement.
He renewed his country's call for Syria's return to the Arab League. He said that this step requires a unanimous resolution from the Arab League, noting Kuwait is playing a key role. The Russian official indicated that Russia hopes that there would be consensus on Syria's return to the Arab League.
Being Foreign Minister's envoy, Al-Dhafiri, who is leading the Kuwaiti delegation, is partaking in the political talks between Kuwait and Russia. Bogdanov is leading the Russian side. (end) as.hm
