Arab League stresses importance of enhancing transportation in region

CAIRO, Oct 19 (KUNA) - The Arab League agreed to enhance the transport sector post the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim to boost the economic indicators in the region.
The organization's Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector, Ambassador Kamal Ali, said in a speech before the 34th session of the Arab Transport Ministers Council that the Arab transport sector was hugely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also noted that this meeting is the first in the wake of successive waves of the pandemic.
Moreover, he touched on the plan to establish a comprehensive Arab online platform for transport and the unification of the specifications of the dimensions and axial weights of trucks operating between Arab countries, a draft agreement to regulate the maritime transport of passengers and goods between Arab countries.
For his part, Jordanian Minister of Transport Wajih Azaiza, Chairperson of the 34th session, expressed his country's aspiration for a comprehensive strategic view among Arab countries based on cooperation that would achieve common interests.
He also noted that the success of Arab transport requires the achievement of an infrastructure based on technology, expressing appreciation to the Arab League for its efforts to play its role in coordination, especially in the transport sector.
The Kuwaiti delegation was headed by the permanent representative to the League of Arab States, Counselor Falah Al-Mutairi. (end) mfm.aa
