Volcanic eruption in Spain forces over 2,000 people to evacuate

MADRID, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- A volcanic eruption in Spain's Atlantic Ocean island of La Palma on Sunday forced over 2,000 people to evacuate the area.
The Spanish TV reported the eruption on Cumbre Vieja, which damaged many houses and farms in the area.
The report added that thousands of earthquake have been detected this past week, in which the highest magnitude registered was an earthquake of 3.8 on the Richter scale.
Moreover, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is planned to visit the island later tonight, where over 35,000 people were affected from the eruption.
The Cumbre Vieja volcano was last erupted on 1971, 50 years ago, at La Palma Island, which is populated with around 84,000 people. (end) hnd.mys
