Iraq, Turkey to activate memorandum on water quota

BAGHDAD, Sept 18 (KUNA) - Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid, affirmed that his country and Turkey agreed Saturday to activate a memorandum that allows obtaining a fair water quota.
During a conference on water security, the Iraqi minister said that the ministry was able to activate a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Turkey, which was signed in 2009 and amended in 2014, and it allows Iraq to obtain a full quota of water.
He noted that the Iraqi government had agreed with the Turkish side to activate the memorandum, and it had already been confirmed a few days ago, and it obligates Turkey to release fair and equitable quantities of water to Iraq within the Tigris and Euphrates basins. (end) ahh.aa
