Chinese Pres. urges backing to steady Afghanistan transition

BEIJING, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday underlined the need to secure a smooth transition in Afghanistan and launch a dialogue to help the Afghan people overcome challenges ahead.
Xi made the remarks in Beijing while attending a joint video conference with the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states on the issue of Afghanistan.
The Chinese President called for respecting Afghanistan's sovereignty, and independence, backing the implementation of "Afghan-led, Afghan-owned" principle and letting the Afghan people decide their own future.
President Xi urged relevant Afghani parties to take actions against terrorist groups to prevent them from destroying the country, and creating chaos.
He added that China would provide the Afghani people with timely humanitarian and medical aid needed to combat the coronavirus pandemic. (pick up previous) mob.mys
