Global pledges for Lebanon reach USD 370 mln at French-hosted talks

PARIS, Aug 4 (KUNA) -- Countries attending a donors' conference for Lebanon, hosted by France, have collectively pledged USD 370 million in financial assistance in addition to material support, according to the Elysee Palace.
This assistance aims to save lives and does not constitute a permanent solution to the crisis in Lebanon, the Paris-based presidential palace underlined in a statement.
This support remains subject to the formation of a government that should carry out the necessary reforms urged by the Lebanese people and the international community, countries attending the French-hosted talks said.
For its part, France has promised to provide USD 118 million over the coming 12 months to support education, healthcare and food security in Lebanon, foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said. (end) mjz.sd
