Senior EU official to attend Iranian Pres-elect inauguration

BRUSSELS, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- The European Union Tuesday confirmed that it is sending a senior official to attend Iranian President-elect Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi's inauguration in Tehran on Thursday.
"The EEAS deputy secretary general Enrique Mora will attend the inauguration on behalf of the EU High Representative (Josep Borrell)," Nabila Massrali, EU Spokesperson for Foreign affairs and Security Policy, told a news conference in Brussels today.
"It is crucial to engage diplomatically with the new administration and pass directly important messages. As coordinator of the JCPOA (the Iran nuclear deal), the High Representative's key priority is to resume negotiations in Vienna and facilitate the way back to full JCPOA implementation," she added.
EEAS (The European External Action Service) is the EU's diplomatic service.
Mora is also the EU's coordinator on the Iran nuclear talks and chairs the meeting at the Vienna talks. (end) nk.hb
