Countries update COVID-19 death, infection tallies

KUWAIT, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Countries worldwide continued on Tuesday to update their death and infection tallies from the coronavirus (COVID-19), which still casts its grim presence over the globe.
In Egypt, the health authorities there reported 51 infections and seven deaths in the last 24 hours.
This brings the tally of infections and deaths to 284,362 and 16,535 respectively.
Recoveries reached 231,259 people with the addition of 530.
In Indian subcontinent, government sources said that 422 people succumbed to COVID-19 as 30,549 new positive cases were reported from across the country in the last 24 hours.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that fatalities due to COVID-19 mounted to 425,195 while the total positive cases rose to 31,726,507.
It added that 30,896,354 people recuperated from the pandemic as the second wave hit the nation unprepared.
Elsewhere, Chinese authorities announced 90 new confirmed infections bringing the total cases to 93,193 while no deaths were recorded during the last 24 hours.
Xinhua News Agency quoted a National Health Commission statement that 24 people left the hospitals during the last 24 hours, to make the total recovered cases since the outbreak of the virus at 87,400, while 1,157 patients are still receiving treatment.
South Korea reported 1,202 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country's total caseload to 201,203.
According to Yonhap News Agency, There were five additional COVID-19 deaths, raising the toll to 2,104.
Japan reported 10,537 new cases of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours raising the nation's total number to 950,388, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll rose by 11 to 15,210, the tallies exclude those who were linked to a virus-hit cruise ship in February 2020.
In Europe, Belgium total infections of coronavirus cases increased to 1,129,018 with 4,303 new infections in the last 48 hours.
Belgian health authorities said that six more deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the last 48 hours raising the total death toll to 25,247.
Meanwhile, Russia announced 22,010 new coronavirus cases and 788 deaths in the past 24 hours.
The total number of cases rose to 6,334,195 and deaths to 160,925 Russian health authorities said in a statement.
The statement added that 18,963 people recovered in past 24 hours, raising the number of recoveries to 5,659,746.
Austria recorded 390 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total cases to 660,262.
The Austrian health ministry said on a statement in their website that the death tallies have reached 10,742, while the total recoveries have reached more than 644,000. (end) Kt.gaa
