Countries update COVID-19 death, infection tallies

KUWAIT, Aug 1 (KUNA) -- Countries worldwide continued on Sunday to update their death and infection tallies from the coronavirus (COVID-19), which still casts its grim presence over the globe.
Syria's health authorities registered nine COVID-19 cases and one death case in the past 24 hours.
Official news agency SANA quoted a health ministry statement as saying that by today's figures, total caseload is now at 25,963, while 1,914 is the death toll.
It added that recoverees reached 21,987 so far after the recovery of seven today.
In Egypt, the health authorities there reported 47 infections and six deaths in the last 24 hours.
This brings the tally of infections and deaths to 284,262 and 16,524 respectively.
Recoveries reached 230368 people with the addition of 656.
Chinese authorities announced 75 new confirmed infections including 53 locals, while no deaths were recorded during the last 24 hours.
Xinhua News Agency quoted a National Health Commission statement that the new locals.
Total infections of people who came from abroad climbed to 5,384.
Nine people left the hospitals during the last 24 hours, to make the total recovered cases since the outbreak of the virus at 85,466, while 263 patients are still receiving treatment.
Tunisian Ministry of health registered 172 deaths and 3,316 infections in the past 24 hours.
It added total deaths rose to 19,858 and infections reached 592,882, while recoveries were 513,629.
Russia reported 789 deaths and 22,804 new cases to push tally of fatalities to 159,352 and 6,288,677 infections.
Russian Covid-19 center said 17,271 people recovered in past 24 hours to reach 5,625,890.
Meanwhile, Austria's total infections reached 659,508, with more than 643,000 recoveries and 10,738 deaths.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also registered one death and 1,519 infections in the past 24 hours, raising fatalities to 1,951 and cases to 682,377.
UAE MoH said total recoveries reached 659,664.
Qatari MoH registered 151 infections to reach 226,390 while 117 recoveries were recorded since yesterday to 223,849. (end) kt.bs
