Palestinian Nat'l Council: Israel must be held accountable for Judaization of Jerusalem

AMMAN, July 27 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Security Council must hold Israel accountable for the crime of attempting to "blur the identity, history and features" of Jerusalem's Old City in violation of international law, the Palestinian National Council said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Amman-based body went on to condemn Israel's bid to "further alter the legal and demographic reality in the service of the 'Judaificational occupation project' in the occupied city and change its Arab Islamic and Christian character." In reference to Salah Ad Din Street, which it described as "one of Jerusalem's most important cultural and commercial hubs", the council said these plans aim to annex additional land, restrict movement and undermine the ancient city's economy.
Regarding settler trespassers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, it said these were attempts to establish a "spatial and temporal division" in the holy site, and to cause a gradual change in the status quo of the Temple Mount.
These violations are accompanied by plans to displace and ethnically cleanse Palestinians and demolish their homes throughout neighbourhoods in occupied Jerusalem, it added. (end) ab.sd
