WHO will continue to cooperate with all countries to eliminate pandemic -- Ghebreyesus

MANAMA, July 26 (KUNA) -- The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, said Monday, that the organization will continue to cooperate with the Kingdom of Bahrain and all countries TO combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a speech during a press conference of Bahrain National Medical Team to tackle COVID-19, Ghebreyesus confirmed that the opening of WHO office in Bahrain comes to provide strategic and technical support to the health sector and to continue promoting public health at the local, regional and international levels.
He praised the positive indicators achieved in Bahrain in leveling off the plateau and reducing deaths to the lowest levels since the beginning pandemic. He also lauded the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during this year's Hajj season.
For her part, Bahraini Health Minister Faeqa Al-Saleh said that the visit of WHO Director-General comes as a continuation of the coordination between Bahrain and the Organization.
She added that the opening of the office will enhance cooperation, work and joint coordination between the Ministry of Health in Bahrain and the WHO, as it will facilitate the exchange of experiences and information to combat the pandemic, diseases and develop health and treatment services.
In turn, the representative of the WHO office Bahrain, Dr. Tasneem Atatreh, confirmed that Kingdom of Bahrain was and still one of the first countries to take proactive steps and successful initiatives in supporting international efforts to address COVID-19 pandemic.
Bahrain implemented comprehensive precautionary and preventive measures to combat the transmission of the virus, she said.
"We will strengthen the mechanism of work with the Ministry of Health and the Regional Office of the WHO towards achieving common goals and supporting universal health coverage," she added. (end) hmd.sam
