Tunisian president freezes parliament

TUNIS, July 25 (KUNA) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied announced Sunday evening freezing the parliament and all its powers. 

President Saied, in a televised speech after a meeting with the country military and security chiefs, announced lifting immunity of all lawmakers and dismissing Prime Minister Hicham Mechichi.
He added that he would assume the executive power and choose a new prime minister to form a new government.
The Tunisian president also said that he assume the power of the attorney general to take legal actions against those who committed crimes against the country.
He stated that the decisions take immediate effect.
He warned those who may resort to violence that the country's military and security forces would respond firmly. (end) ksj.ibi
