BRUSSELS, July 16 (KUNA) -- The death toll inflicted by severe weather has reached at least 14 in Belgium while search is continuing for at least four missing people.
According to Belgian media reports Friday, in the southern region of Wallonia, hundreds of people were also evacuated in several municipalities. In Liege, Belgium's third-largest city, the mayor even called on people to leave the city if possible.
Heavy rainfall which resulted in flooding has wreaked havoc across many parts of Belgium.
As a result of the heaving flooding, more than 21,000 people have also been left without electricity in Wallonia,
In neighbouring Netherlands, the government has declared the regional floods as an official disaster.
"It is very clear that the situation is disastrous," prime minister Mark Rutte told reporters on Thursday evening.
"People are worried about their homes and their jobs," he added.
Several districts in Maastricht are had been evacuated on Thursday evening as a precaution and the first residents began returning on Friday morning, Dutch media reported. (end)
