Spain to allow sports fans back into stadiums after COVID ban

MADRID, June 24 (KUNA) -- Spanish authorities are allowing sports fans back into stadiums starting next season after more than a year-long hiatus because of restrictions in place to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
Football and basketball stadiums will welcome fans back to "full capacity" next season, Health Minister Carolina Darias told a press conference, saying that wearing facemasks will only be necessary when social distancing is not feasible.
The minister hailed the announcement as "good news" for sports aficionados who have been deprived of attending live action for the last year.
Coronavirus cases and deaths have fallen sharply in Spain, while the government has said the country is "on track" to achieve herd immunity. (end) hnd.nam
