Arab League chief dismayed with Europeans' bias on recent confrontations

CAIRO, June 20 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit on Sunday expressed dismay with some European nations that have "brazenly" sided with Israel during the latest round of confrontations in Palestine.
The Arab organization said in a statement that the secretary general affirmed during a meeting with the new European Union envoy for the Middle East, Sven Koopmans, that the Europeans' bias contradicts their unanimity on the two states' solution on the basis of the 1967 borders, weakens their stance toward the regional conflict and causes frustration among the Arabs.
Abul-Gheit affirmed the dire need for launching a process for a final settlement between Palestine and Israel to avert further blood spilling.
Principles for a final settlement are well known to every one; the International Quartet and the EU are key parties to the aspired settlement, thus they must shoulder the responsibility and rally international aid to help the two sides sit at the negotiating table, he added.
Implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 (2016) constitutes the ground for launching such a process, Abul-Gheit added. (end) mfm.rk
