(photo feature) MADRID, June 19 (KUNA) -- The Spanish Capital Madrid abounds many defensive towers built by Muslims back in the ninth and tenth centuries to control the main roads leading to the mountains surrounding the area during the Islamic reign in Andalusia.
The most famous round watchtowers (Atalaya) was a part of the defense system on the strategic borders between Muslims and Christians to detect any attack or danger. It was one of the oldest traces of the Islamic civilization in Andalusia. (end) hnd.nhq
