S. Korea reports 673 new coronavirus cases, total now at 112,789

TOKYO, April 16 (KUNA) -- South Korea reported 673 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the country's total caseload to 112,789 (the government amended total number yesterday), according to Yonhap News Agency.
The country added two deaths, raising the total to 1,790, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Of the newly transmitted cases, Seoul reported 215 and Gyeonggi Province that surrounds the capital city saw 216 patients.
The greater Seoul area is currently under the Level 2 distancing scheme, the third highest in the five-phase system. The rest of the country is under Level 1.5, except for some municipalities that have adopted Level 2 measures. Private gatherings of five or more people are banned nationwide.
Under the new guidelines that go into effect Monday, operations of entertainment establishments are banned in the greater Seoul area and the southeastern port city of Busan. Restaurants in the capital area are allowed to have sit-in customers through 10 p.m. (end) mk.aa
