Hungary's Fidesz leaves largest political group in European Parliament

BRUSSELS, March 3 (KUNA) -- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party on Wednesday left the European People's Party (EPP) group the biggest in the European Parliament after a vote that paved the way for it to be suspended or excluded from the group.
The new rules specify the procedures related to Membership of the Group and under what conditions suspensions and exclusions can take place, said the EPP in a press release.
A total of 148 MEPs of the centre-right party voted in favor and 28 against the new rules.
With the departure of Fidesz, the EPP group loses 12 MEPs. The group had 187 members out of a total of 701 MEPs. (end) nk.ibi
