WASHINGTON, Feb 15 (KUNA) -- US President Joe Biden will participate on Friday in the G7 leaders' virtual meeting during which he will discuss plans to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic and rebuild the global economy, the White House announced Sunday evening.
The White House said in a statement that Biden will focus on a global response to the COVID pandemic, including coordination on vaccine production, distribution, and supplies, as well as continued efforts to mobilize and cooperate against the threat of emerging infectious diseases by building country capacity and establishing health security financing.
Biden will also discuss the global economic recovery "including the importance of all industrialized countries maintaining economic support for the recovery and collective measures to build back better."
The statement added that Biden will also discuss "need to make investments to strengthen our collective competitiveness and the importance of updating global rules to tackle economic challenges such as those posed by China."
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be hosting the meeting on Friday as part of his countryآ’s G7 Presidency this year and ahead of the planned G7 summit in June 2021. The virtual meeting is the first gathering of G7 leaders since April 2020. (end)
