RIYADH, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Wednesday discussed humanitarian situation of Rohingya refugees, a Muslim minority.
In a statement, the OIC Secretariat said it hosted a virtual meeting in which the UNHCR made a briefing to the organization's team tasked with Rohingya on the humanitarian situation of these Muslim refugees.
Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs at the OIC Ambassador Samir Bakr conveyed keenness of OIC chief Yousef Al-Othaimeen to back OIC member states to offer humanitarian and political backing to Muslim Rohinyga, in line with the OIC's Charter and relevant ministerial resolutions.
He stressed the utmost importance of OIC to find a radical solution to the humanitarian plight of Rohingya refugees described by the UN as the most vulnerable minority in the world.
He pointed to the organization's firm commitment to backing solidarity and boosting cooperation as well as burden-sharing principle to resolve this issue, especially amid the repercussions of the novel coronavirus. (end) mdm.aa.hm
