9 Daesh fighters killed in raid in Kirkuk

IRBIL, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi anti-terrorism squad on Wednesday declared killing nine members of the so-called Islamic State (Daesh) in a raid in the south of Kirkuk governorate.
The force said in a statement that during a firefight, members of the notorious group blew themselves up while others were shot dead.
It added that some ranking chiefs of the group were killed in the operation.
The Iraqi government declared a crushing victory against Daesh in 2017. However, the group retained some pockets in rural regions of Iraq. (end) sb.rk
