Kuwait parliament session due Tuesday, Wednesday wouldn't be held -- Speaker
KUWAIT, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- The National Assembly sessions, due Tuesday and Wednesday, would not be held after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah accepted the Cabinet resignation, said the Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim on Monday.
Al-Ghanim, in a press statement at Abdullah Al-Salem Hall, said on the basis of the government resignation and the Amiri Order accepting its resignation as well as on grounds of precedencies, the session would not held and "I would be present tomorrow to lift it due to the government absence pending formation of a new government." The parliament speaker indicated that he had received a message from His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah including the Amiri Order to accept the resignation of His Highness the premier.
The assembly chairman also noted that he had received another message from the Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Mubarak Al-Haris, notifying him that the government could not attend the parliament sessions due tomorrow and the day after tomorrow in the aftermath of the Amiri Order accepting resignation of His Highness the Prime Minister and the Ministers.
On another issue, Al-Ghanim revealed that 20 members of the assembly have not delivered personal financial data to the Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) noting that it has been overdue since February 4, urging the MPs to speedily do so.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, earlier today, issued an order accepting the government resignation and asking the ministers to carry on with performing their duties on caretaking basis. (end) ns.rk
