KUWAIT, Dec 29 (KUNA) -- World sports in 2020 has been strongly hit by the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with major sporting events and competitions being canceled or postponed in an initial reaction.
Despite the bleak situation, sports leagues around the world managed to resume action, but with the absence of one crucial element, the fans who had to be content with watching their favorite teams and athletes on their screens rather than at their favorite stadiums and venues.
Following are the most important sports happenings in the year of the coronavirus: Feb 3: The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl after beating competitors the San Francisco 49rs 15-4.
March 1: Manchester City won the English Cup for the third consecutive time.
April 30: Paris Saint-Germain crowned as champions of French League cut short by the spread of COVID-19.
June 1: Sports competition returned throughout the UK minus the spectators due to the coronavirus spread.
June 11: Spanish league resumed after suspension due to COVID-19 spread. No fans were allowed to attend matches.
June 16: Bayern Munich snatched Bundesliga trophy for eighth consecutive time after beating Werder Bremen 1-0.
June 17: Napoli won the Italian cup for the sixth time in its history, beating Juventus in a penalty shoot-out 4-2.
June 20: Italy's Serie A football league returned to action after 15 days of inaction. No fans were allowed to attend matches due to COVID-19.
