KUWAIT, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- News from the Kuwaiti oil sector loomed high in the media realm in the passing year with diverse significant happenings such as taking delivery of three giant tankers and recording first crude shipment from divided zone for the first time since five years ago.
Following are some of the key news from the Kuwait oil sector in the passing year: Energy

Jan 2: Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced that the price of Kuwaiti oil reached USD 66.1 per barrel in the first day of the year.

Jan 5: Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and Qatar Petroleum signed a long-term agreement for liquefied gas. As per the agreement, Qatar will provide Kuwait with around three million tons of liquefied natural gas for a period of 15 years.

Jan 6: KPC said that the price of Kuwaiti oil reached its highest number in during the year, hitting USD 69.9 per barrel.

Jan 14: Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) exported the first batch of low sulfur diesel fuel to international markets.

Feb 24: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) initiated its heavy crude oil project north of the country, its biggest endeavor to date.

March 10: Kuwait Oil Tankers Company (KOTC) officially received the giant "Um Ruwaisat" liquefied gas tanker. This expanded the company's fleet to 28 tankers.

March 31: Kuwait Oil Tankers Company (KOTIC) received from South Korea "Al-Yamama", a petroleum products vessel. The company expanded its fleet to 29 tankers.

April 5: First shipment of Al-Khafji crude oil extracted from the divided zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia was shipped after a five-year stoppage.

April 21: KPC said that the price of Kuwaiti oil went down to its lowest price at USD 13.2 per barrel.

April 28: Kuwait Oil Tankers Company (KOTC) received the Shegardiah oil tanker from a South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

Nov 23: Kuwait Oil Tankers Company earned for the sixth consecutive year the award for environmental protection in maritime transports in the Middle East and the Indian continent -- presented by the International Maritime Organization.

Dec 2: Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and the Japanese ministry of commerce, industry, and economy signed an agreement to store 3.14 million barrels of crude oil in Japan.
