Kuwait shut public parks, witnessed games amid covid outbreak 2020

KUWAIT, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait shut public parks as one of a chain of measures against COVID-19 and braved the pandemic with scheduled sports games in 2020.
Following some of the key media and sports events witnessed in Kuwait during passing year: Media and cultural Affairs

Feb 5: Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Djibouti news agency signed a cooperation deal.

March 13: Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri ordered the closure of public parks until further notice to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Jan 7: Kuwait sports club beat Al-Arabi 3-2 in a penalty shootout, becoming the winner of the Crown Prince Football championship.

Jan 14: His Highness the Amir's ninth grand international shooting tournament began at Sabah Al-Ahmad shooting complex with the participation of 30 countries.

Feb 5: Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdullah international tennis complex was inaugurated. The facility houses 18 indoor and outdoor courts and a 300-room hotel. It is the biggest tennis facility in the Middle East region at an area of 70,000 square meters.

Feb 8: Kuwait's stars squad won the Arab Ice-Hockey tournament held in Kuwait. They beat an Emirati team by 6-4 to win the tournament, which began on February second with the participation of six Arab teams.

Feb 15: Jockey Ali Al-Kharafi won His Highness the Amir's grand equestrian tournament. The event -- which began on February 13 -- saw the participation of 600 jockeys.

Feb 16: Kuwait sports club was crowned as champion of the 58th Basketball league after beating Kazma 80 to 78 points.

March 23: The Public Authority for Sports (PAS) suspended all sports activities in the country due to the spread of coronavirus.

Aug 10: GCC Winter Games Steering Committee elected without contestation the State of Kuwait to host its headquarters and selected the head of the Kuwaiti Winter Games Club, Fhaid Al-Ajmi, to chair the committee for a second four-year term.

Aug 15: The Kuwaiti soccer premier league resumed competitions with a match between Kuwait and Al-Nasr after a five-month halt due to the novel coronavirus.

Aug 31: Kuwait Club crowned champion of the national premier soccer tournament beating Salmiya 4-1.

Sept 1: The Kuwaiti mixed handball tournament resumed competitions after a six-month stoppage due to COVID-19.

Sept 3: Kuwait Club crowned champion of the national premier soccer games for the 16th time, beating Al-Shabab 5-1.

Sept 15: The Kuwaiti shooting team ranked second in the Asian tournament after China. South Korea came third.

Sept 21: Al-Arabi Club crowned champion of His Highness the Amir Cup for 2019-2020 beating Kuwait Club 2-1.

Sept 23: Kuwait Club crowned champion of the national basketball tournament beating Al-Qadsiya 88-71.

Oct 12: Kuwaiti jet-ski rider Abdullah Al-Fadhel won the global tournament Super Stock category in competitions held Havasu City, Arizona.

Oct 31: Kuwait Club won the national volleyball tournament beating Kazma 3-0.

Nov 2: Kuwait Club crowned champion of the national premier league for handball for eighth time in a row beating Salmiya 24-17.

Nov 4: Kuwait Club crowned champion of the super basketball tournament beating Kazma 76-72.

Nov 9: The Kuwaiti candidate Abdulaziz Al-Baloul was elected uncontested as the deputy chief chairman of the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

Nov 9: Kuwait Club won the 54th volleyball premier beating Kazma 3-2.

Nov 14: Salwa Al-Sabah Club for Girls won the first track and field championship for girls in the sports season 2020-2021.

Nov 18: Kuwait Club crowned the champion of the national handball tournament for the 10t time beating Al-Arabi 20-26.

Nov 23: Kuwait Club crowned champion of the super handball tournament beating Salmiya 32-21.

Nov 26: Kuwait Club won the national super cup tournament for volleyball bearing Kazma 0-3.

Dec 15: Kuwait Sports Club clinched the 2020-21 football super club after beating Al-Arabi by 1-0 goals.
