US economy sees slowest growth since spring

WASINGTON, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- The US economy witnessed its slowest growth in November since the spring as figures forecast recovery problems in the coming months as COVID-19 infections surge to new heights.
The monthly unemployment rate decreased to 6.7, from 6.9 percent, with 245,000 jobs added, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
"In the week ending November 28, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 712,000, a decrease of 75,000 from the previous week's revised level," it added.
"Unemployment benefits for an estimated 12 million people will expire at the end of the year, due to deadlines set by legislators in March.
"And the virus' surge has begun touching off a new round of closures and restrictions, as the caseload surges to new heights across a broader swath of the country than before," according to the bureau. (end) rsr.sd
