Pfizer, BioNTech SE apply for COVID-19 vaccine approval in Europe

BERLIN, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE submitted an application Tuesday to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to authorize their COVID-19 vaccine.
In a statement, the BioNTech said that it submitted the request on Monday to the competent European authorities, who will now take their role in testing and licensing the vaccine before any use.
The company pledged to start immediately distributing the vaccine, after the EMA approval and shed the green light from the European Commission for its use.
More than 50 million doses are expected to be distributed this year, that is, within four weeks, and about 1.3 billion doses next year, it added. (end) anj.aa
