Jordan denounces Israeli plan to build 540 new settlements in Jerusalem

AMMAN, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- Jordan on Monday astringently blasted an Israeli decision to build 540 new settlements in the occupied East Jerusalem.
Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Daifallah Fayez said in a statement that his country is opposed to Israeli settlement activities, billing them as "condemnable and constituting a breach of international law and UN resolutions, primarily UNSC Resolution 2334".
He emphasized that the Israeli settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territories, including construction, expansion, dispossession and displacement, is "illegal and a unilateral step".
The spokesman added that this policy is a blatant breach of international law and undermines peace efforts, including a two-state solution.
He called on the international community to shoulder responsibility by pressuring Israel to halt its settlement policy. (end) mjb.mt
