France, Germany agree to boost anti-terror coop.

PARIS, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- French and German interior ministers on Friday agreed to boost bilateral security cooperation and to push for similar measures throughout the European Union in the coming months.
They noted, in a joint statement, that the initiative being taken was the result of spate of terrorist attacks in France since September.
"The recent attacks also remind us that constant attention must be paid to those considered by Member States to be a terrorist or violent extremist threat," according to the statement.
"In our area of free movement (Schengen), we need to ensure that information is shared reliably and quickly when these people travel or come into contact with individuals or networks in other Member States," it pointed out.
Cooperation between police and intelligence services and exchange of information are to be enhanced, both sides agreed.
"However, information sharing is only possible if this information is available in European IT systems. That is why we need a strict registration procedure at the Union's borders and a robust common information system," the statement stressed.
"We are currently evaluating the possibilities of improving the exchange of information on persons considered to constitute a terrorist or violent extremist threat. "No possibility of attacking us, or of hiding in the territory of the European Union, should be left to terrorists," it added. (end) ak.gb
