US records almost 79,000 new coronavirus cases

WASHINGTON, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- The US recorded almost 79,000 new coronavirus cases and almost 1000 deaths in the past 24 hours.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the US recorded 78,981 new coronavirus cases and 994 deaths.
The tally showed that the confirmed cases nationwide reached 8,856,413 and at least 227,685 deaths.
This comes as over 40 states are reporting an increase in Covid-19 cases while several states in the Midwest are witnessing record hospitalizations, CNN reported.
According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, over 2,000 people are predicted to die of the coronavirus daily by January 1 "under the current conditions." The US ranks first globally in number of coronavirus cases and deaths. (end) si
